Site visit - National park Krka
On August 28, 1895, with the merit of Nikola Tesla, the first hydroelectric power plant in Europe was put into operation on Krka waterfalls and Šibenik became the first city in the world powered by the power of the alternating current.
127 years later, surrounded by one of the most celebrated Croatian National Parks, the Krka power plant is still operational, standing as a historical monument to the possible coexistence of industry and environment. Unfortunately, for that time, our planet became a victim of our negligence.
Through a scenic walk through Krka National Park, together with the representatives of the leading Croatian enviromental protection organizations, we will try to rethink the pressing issues of climate change and new possible modalities of human action toward our sustainable future.
We think there is no better place for that than the pristine natural pearl of the Krka waterfalls, which flora and fauna has managed to withstand thousands of years of human activity.
